Development of a new hydrophobic magnetic biochar for removing oil spills on the water surface

Abstract More technologies are urgently needed for combined use to effectively eliminate the effect of oil spills, an environmental problem widespread concern. Among these technologies, sorption methods available remove residual and prevent further spread on water surface. In this study, biochars, prepared from different feedstock materials pyrolysis temperatures, were screened modified improve their application in environment. cornstalk biochar (CSBC), corncob (CCBC), Sophora sawdust (SSBC), rice husk (RHBC), CSBC had excellent capacity, especially at 350? (CSBC350), which has a complete full pore structure. Furthermore, magnetic silane agent modifications CSBC350 (OMBC) performed enhance properties field controllability hydrophobicity increase sorption. The OMBC exhibited satisfactory capacities crude oil, diesel engine water-oil system 8.77 g ?1 , 4.01 4.44 respectively. process complied with pseudo-second-order kinetics (R 2 > 0.97) Langmuir isotherm models 0.80) based highest regression coefficients. mechanisms dominated by hydrophobic forces, intercepts, hydrogen-bond interactions. adsorbent can availably cooperate other physical contaminants, be outstanding fuel source producing heat.
